For Wednesday, September 5

The Hangman
Read the poem "The Hangman" by Maurice Ogden.  Annotate the text, marking things that stand out to you.  Mark the words that reflect the images you saw in the film today.  Look at the questions at the bottom of your poetry sheet; answer them mentally.  Make sure that you have annotated those portions of the poem that best fit your answers.

We will discuss the poem in detail on Wednesday, as well as, finish up your embedded quote team assignment.

Have an Awesome Labor Day!

Blessings,
Mrs. Fox

For Thursday, August 29

Finish reading Night. Remember to complete each task on your bookmark.

You should have a paragraph for each chapter discussing the progress of oppression brought on by the Nazi party. Some paragraphs will be shorter than others.

You should have a 1/2 page paragraph written that compares Marc Chagall's painting White Crucifixion to the book Night. You will have to look at the details in the painting. Why might Chagall choose to have Jesus in his painting if he does not believe Jesus is the Messiah?

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Blessings,
Mrs. Fox

For Tuesday, August 28

Read Night; follow instructions on your bookmark.  Do not forget the paragraph about Chagall's painting.  Due:  Thursday, August 30.

On Tuesday, we will work on Scout's and Jem's growth charts.  Make sure to bring your To Kill a Mockingbird text.

I enjoyed our first week together; hope you did too.

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

For Friday, August 24

Continue reading Night; annotate and follow instructions according to your bookmarks.

I hope you had a great time at Ray Bradbury's birthday party. If you did not get to hear the end of the short story "The Emissary," you will need to look it up on the internet and finish it. You can expect a short quiz on the story's details.

I am enjoying your class so much!

Blessings,
Mrs. Fox
We will miss you Mr. Bradbury!

For Wednesday, August 22

Continue reading Night.  Make sure you are following the directions on your bookmark.

Today, we talked a lot about voice and tone.  I was impressed with your "voice" both in  your oral presentations of TKMB characters and your written shoe stories.  Remember, as we continue through the year, you will be developing your voice so you can make a difference in your world.

As you are reading Night, think about Elie's voice and the tone of his memoir.

For Monday, 20 August 2012

Begin reading Night, by Elie Wiesel.  Make sure to follow the instructions on your bookmark.  I have tried posting your bookmark on Renweb and thusfar have been unsuccessful.  We are working out the kinks with our new system, so please be patient.  Here is the painting White Crucifixion by Marc Chagall.  You can google an even bigger image of the painting, so you can really see the details.

You are an awesome class.  I had a great time today.  I hope you did too.

Blessings,
Mrs. Fox

Welcome Back to School!

Scout Finch
I hope you thoroughly enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird.  I am just to the section where Dill runs away from home and ends up at the Finch's house.  What indications are there in this chapter that Jem is really growing up?  Find Scout's determination that this is true.
