Reread page 78.  Why do you think this section of the novel is entitled "The Sieve and the Sand"?  Bring in a paragraph on Friday in which you discuss your answer.  If you plan to be out because of the volleyball game, make sure to email me your paragraph.  Your paragraph will be considered late if I do not have it in by 12:00 noon on Friday.

1.  Read Fahrenheit 451 through page 80...find the white space.

"The train door whistled open.  Montag stood.  The door gasped, started shut.  Only then did he leap past the other passengers, screaming in his mind, plunge through the slicing door only in time.  He ran on the white tiles up through the tunnels, ignoring the escalators, because he wanted to feel his feet move, arms swing, lungs clench, u nclench, feel his throat go raw with air.  A voice drifted after him, "Denham's Denham's Denham's," the train hissed like a snake.  The train vanished in its hole."

Finish reading section 1 of Fahrenheit 451, The Hearth and the Salamander. 

You can also start your Rogue Technology short story.  Story's due date:  October 31

1. Read F-451 through page 40. The last paragraph you need to read is:

2. Bring in the quote (from these first 40 pages) that you think best fits each of these illustrations. You will turn in 3 quotes on Thursday.

For Wednesday and Friday, October 19

Work on your research paper, annotated bibliography, and works cited page at home.  Bring a "mostly complete" rough draft to class on Friday.  You will meet with me one-on-one that day.  With ten of you in class, that will give us about 8 minutes per student.  So.....

Let your research paper change our world!

If you send me a rough draft for comment via my email (shannonfox.english@gmail.com), you will get extra help.  This would be a great idea!

After you complete your team performances for Anthem next week, we will have one workshop day for your research paper. For World Lit B, that day will be Friday, October 19. Come to class with your laptop and/or a draft of your paper. If you do not have a laptop, bring your paper on a flashdrive.

NOTICE: Friday, October 19, is NOT the day to START your research paper. By Oct. 19, you should be WELL ON YOUR WAY to a final draft!
