For Monday, December 3

FIRST AND FOREMOST:  Prepare for your vocabulary/writing test using the review sheet we started in class.  For vocabulary words, I may ask for an example; I may ask you to define; I may ask you to use the word in a sentence.

For writing portion, I will ask you to define these terms and will ask for you to give an example.

Bring in one typed journal entry (see Journal handout for Romeo and Juliet)

Read Romeo and Juliet through Scene 3 of Act I.

So...Benvolio hatches a plan.
And...we meet Julia's family (specifically her mom, her nurse, and Juliet)

Come to class Monday with a very short character description of each.  I would rather you get this wrong than look at spark note's character descriptions.  What can you tell about the nurse by reading Scene 3?  What can you tell about Juliet?  What can you tell about Juliet's relationship with her mother?

Romeo arrives at the Capulet mansion.

Could you pick a puppy breed for these three women?  What might you pick?

For Thursday, November 8

Read "Burning Bright" through page 134 (in my book).  The last paragraph you will read:

"He watched the scene, fascinated, not wanting to move.  It seemed so remote and no part of him; it was a play apart and separate, wondrous to watch, not without its strange pleasure.  That's all for me, he thought, that's all taking place just for me, by God."

Make sure to check out all of these images.  You will be writing a poem on Thursday about an accidental enounter with one of these people.
My favorite!

Friday, November 2, 2012

For Tuesday, November 6

Find a comfy reading spot!
Finish section 2, "The Sand and the Sieve."  We will have a quiz and then detailed discussion about this section on Tuesday.  If you did not get your paragraph to me Friday, remember to email me at shannonfox.english@gmail.com.  You can look back at previous post to get assignment.

Pay special attention to Faber's three things that "are needed"  He mentions "quality", "leisure", and "rights."  Be prepared to outline Faber's message for us.

Pay attention to the juxtaposition of "lillies" and "Denham's Dentifrice."  Why might Bradbury have chosen this particular Biblical passage for Montag to "memorize"?

See you Tuesday!  Blessings!
