In Chinua Achebe's story "Dead Men's Path", the village priest says: "let the hawk perch and let the eagle perch."  In light of the themes of the story, what would you say the parable means?  Why an eagle and a hawk rather than a pigeon and a seagull?  

Come to class ready to annotate this short story and look at some amazing poems!
